Kotoyama (コトヤマ Kotoyama?), formerly known simply as Koto (コト Koto?), is a Japanese mangaka and the author and illustrator of Call of the Night.
History[]
Kotoyama was a manga fan from a young age, and was a fan of lots of shonen action series such as GeGeGe no Kitaro and Dragon Ball. In junior high, his father got him hooked onto Katsuhiro Otomo's works as well.[1]
He started drawing manga at around the age of 20, and made his debut with Igujisu (イグジス Igujisu?) on BookLive's ComicLive! Drive.[1] While self-publishing his manga on the internet, he was scouted by Weekly Shonen Sunday's editorial department.[2]
This eventually lead to his first serialization, Dagashi Kashi (だがしかし Dagashi Kashi?), which began on June 25, 2014 in Shonen Sunday's issue 30 2014, and ended on April 11, 2018 in issue 20 2018.
He began his current work Call of the Night (よふかしのうた Yofukashi no Uta?) in issue 39 2019, on August 28, 2019.
Collaborations[]
Kotoyama's Call of the Night was named after the song of the same name by Japanese hip-hop duo Creepy Nuts.[3] After the manga's first volume was released, a PV collaboration featuring the song was aired.
On August 18, 2020, a collaborative music video featuring Call of the Night and popular rock duo Yorushika's song Tobo (逃亡 Tōbō?, lit. Escape) was posted on Sunday's YouTube channel.
